Off Season Tidings

I am not saying anything we’re all not thinking…that we cannot wait until the 2011 baseball season opens.

Since the PawSox wrapped up their 2011 season, much has happened at McCoy Stadium.  We all mourned the loss of the beloved Ben Mondor.  We all wish Torey Lovullo all the best as he joins the coaching staff of the Toronto Blue Jays.  And we have high hopes for this summer as Arnie Beyeler takes the reigns of the club.

There’s been quite a bit written about the club this offseason.  Before we here at PawSox Blog start our fourth season covering the club, we thought we’d give you a chance to catch-up on some of that information.

First and foremost, make a point to follow the blogs of PawSox radio voices Dan Hoard and Steve Hyder.  They will always have unique insight on the club via their day-to-day access with the team.  Also spend some time with PawSox Director of Security Rick Medeiros.  He always seems to let his inner fandom take over when he writes.  Good stuff.

Sox Prospects has all the news and notes of what’s happening in the Red Sox’ minor league system, including projections on who will likely be starting the 2011 season at McCoy.

Kudos to Steve Hyder, Steve McDonald, and Bendan McGair for being selected as the Rhode Island sportscasters and sportswriter of the year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association of America.  Well deserved.

Stay tuned as we begin to ramp up our coverage of the team as we get closer to spring training.

As we enter our fourth season covering the team, we want to know what we can do to make our coverage of PawSox better.  Get in touch with me with your ideas at keith@pawsoxblog.com.  In the meantime, think warm thoughts and keep April 7th always on your mind.

  • Back in the Game

I should take a vacation more often.

While I was away from the PawSox the team goes 7-2 and is playing its most consistent baseball of the year.  It was a bummer not to be at McCoy during the last homestand.  I’ll be back when the team returns late next week.

In the meantime I am back to resume my work here at PawSox Blog.  Thanks for your patience.

  • Taking A Break

As much fun as it is to write about the PawSox on a daily basis, it is more fun to spend quality time with my family.

I will be doing just that for a little over a week.  I hope to be back by May 20th.

While I’m away get your PawSox fix from PawSox.com and our friends (and PawSox announcers) Dan Hoard and Steve Hyder.

  • PawSox, Bisons Tied 1-1 After 3

The Pawtucket Red Sox and the Buffalo Bisons are knotted 1-1 after three innings this afternoon at McCoy.

The PawSox took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second.  With one out 1B Aaron Bates laced a double to right center off Bisons starter R.A. Dickey.  After advancing to third on a fly out to right by Mark Wagner, Bates scored on an RBI single by Daniel Nava.

The Bisons had a great chance to score a bevy of runs after loading the bases with none out in the top of the third off PawSox starter Randor Bierd.  Buffalo could only score one run on a 6-3 double play by C Josh Thole.

Bierd has walked three and struck out three though three innings.
