Crawford begins his rehab tonight after being on the disabled list since June 18th with a left hamstring strain.  He is expected to play six innings tonight and tomorrow before being evaluated.  If all goes well he will be joining Boston on Monday in Baltimore.

“I’m feeling good and excited about getting back out on the field” said Crawford after batting practice. ”I know when you don’t face Big League pitching in a while you’re going to be behind a little bit.  Hopefully it won’t take as long for me to catch up.”

Millwood has been consistent this season and it has rubbed off on the PawSox.  Pawtucket is 8-0 in games started by Millwood.

In off-the-field news the PawSox have sent IF James Kang to Single A Greenville.

We will be providing updates throughout the game via Twitter.  Check back here after the game.

The PawSox enter the game winners of three in a row and five out of their last six.  They are tied with the Gwinnett Braves for the I.L. wild card spot.

The Bulls are also on a hot streak coming off a series where they won four of five against the Norfolk Tides.

Some roster moves today for the PawSox:  Scott Atchison is back with the club after being optioned by Boston Sunday when they recalled Kyle Weiland to make the start against the Baltimore Orioles.  The PawSox have also reinstated Tony Thomas from the disabled list.  Thomas had been sidelined wince July third with a strained left shoulder.  Pawtucket also put Felix Doubront back on the roster after a start earlier this week in Portland.

Tampa Bay pitcher Andy Sonanstine is with the Bulls.  He was optioned to Durham last week.  He has spent all of 2011 with the Rays, where he went 0-2 with a 5.71 ERA in 13 appearances.  He is expected to work out of the Bulls bullpen.

The Bulls’ Russ Canzler begins the second half of the season as the MVP of the Triple A All-Star Game.  Canzler’s three-run homer were the only runs plated in yesterday’s 3-0 victory by the International League over the Pacific Coast League.

By the way, you can watch tonight’s game on NESN.  We will provide game updates via Twitter.  Check back here for post-game wrap-ups.

    Matt Fox (4-2, 3.61 ERA) P

Following last night’s victory the PawSox leaped over the Scranton-Wilkes Barre Yankees to earn the second spot in the division, 3 1/2 games behind first place Lehigh Valley.  They are also just 1/2 game behind both Gwinnett and Louisville in the IL Wild Card race.  With it being the last game of the month, the PawSox have already clinched a winning record for June, going 16-10 entering tonight.

Plenty of off-field news for the PawSox.  The Red Sox today designated OF Mike Cameron for assignment and called up IF Yamaico Navarro from the PawSox.  Pawtucket placed IF Nate Spears on the 7-day disabled list retroactive to June 29th with a shoulder sprain.  The PawSox have called up IF Tony Thomas from Portland.

PawSox players hot at the plate:

    - Brent Dlugach is batting .440 with a double, homer, and five RBI’s over his last seven games.
    - Che-Hsuan Lin has multi-hit games in three of his last five appearances where he has gone .345 with six RBI’s

  • PawSox/Knights Pre-Game Notes- June 14, 2011

We are at McCoy tonight for the finale of the four game series between the Charlotte Knights and the Pawtucket Red Sox at McCoy.  Charlotte has won two of the first three games of the series.

    Here are the line-ups:

Charlotte Knights (29-34, 3rd Place IL South Division)

    Alejandro De Aza LF
    Jim Gallagher RF
    Tyler Flowers C
    Dallas McPherson 1B
    Lastings Milledge DH
    Jordan Danks CF
    Gookie Dawkins 3B
    Andrew Garcia SS
    Edwardo Escobar 2B

    Dylan Axelrod (0-0) P

PAWTUCKET RED SOX (32-31, 3rd Place IL North Division)

    Daniel Nava LF
    Nate Spears 2B
    Drew Sutton RF
    Lars Anderson 1B
    Ryan Lavarnway DH
    Hector Luna 3B
    Luis Exposito C
    Ronald Bermudez CF
    Jose Iglesias SS

    Andrew Miller (3-3, 2.54 ERA) P

Miller has been arguably the hottest PawSox pitcher.  In his last three games he has gone 2-1 with a 1.80 ERA.  He’s been able to pinpoint his control, not allowing a walk in his last 15 innings.  He has allowed three runs or fewer in each of his 12 starts.

The PawSox welcomed back Drew Sutton to the roster after being optioned by the Red Sox to make room for the return of Darnell McDonald.

“He did a great job while he was up there,” said PawSox Manager Arnie Beyeler, “If he can come back here and do his job, if something broke (in Boston) they’d bring him back up.  He was a good fit up there.”

In a related move IF Tony Thomas was transferred back to Portland.  The PawSox roster currently sits at 23, one under the limit.

Beyeler says both Ryan Kalish and Yamaico Navarro are making headway in their rehab.  Kalish is in Pawtucket, taking batting practice off a tee or soft toss.  Beyeler says Kalish has been slowed in his recovery of his left shoulder by a recurring neck ailment. Navarror has been in extended spring training working back from a right oblique strain.

We are at McCoy tonight for game two of the four game set between the PawSox and the Norfolk Tides.  Norfolk took game one of the series yesterday 5-4 in 13 innings.

Red Sox starter John Lackey is slated to make a rehab start for the PawSox.  He has been sidelined since May 11th with a right elbow strain.

    Here are the line-ups:

Norfolk Tides (18-33, 4th Place IL South Division)

    Matt Angle CF
    Tyler Henson LF
    Brandon Snyder 1B
    Josh Bell 3B
    Rhyne Hughes DH
    Blake Davis RF
    Brendan Harris SS
    Nick Green 2B
    Michael Hernandez C

    Mike Ballard (2-4, 5.08 ERA) P

PAWTUCKET RED SOX (25-25, 3rd Place IL North Division)

    Che-Hsuan Lin RF
    Tony Thomas 2B
    Darnell McDonald CF
    Hector Luna 1B
    Daniel Nava DH
    Brent Dlugach 3B
    Luis Exposito C
    Jose Iglesias SS
    Matt Sheely LF

    John Lackey (NR) P

The PawSox enter the game losers of four of their last five.

Lackey will be limited to four innings or 70 pitches.  If all goes well he is expected to return to the Red Sox rotation this Sunday.

Red Sox outfielder Darnell McDonald is also rehabbing with Pawtucket tonight.  He has been on the DL since last Thursday with a left quadriceps strain.  PawSox Manager Arnie Beyeler says he expects to move McDonald around the outfield over the next ten days he’s with the club.

The Red Sox have activated Bobby Jenks and have optioned Michael Bowden back to Pawtucket.  Bowden was called up to Boston on Sunday when reliever Franklin Morales was placed on the 15-day disabled list.

The Red Sox have announced that pitcher Kevin Millwood will be added to the PawSox roster tomorrow and will make his 2011 debut against the Tides.  The addition of Millwood will put the PawSox at the 24 player roster limit.

We will be providing updates all evening on Twitter.  Join us after the game for a complete wrap-up.
