PawSox Edge Hens in Ten Innings 3-2

The Pawtucket Red Sox left Fifth Third Field winners of three of four over the Toledo Mud Hens following today’s 3-2 10 innings.

Jose Iglesias began the PawSox’ tenth by lacing a double to right off Toledo reliever Lester Oliveros (1-1).  Josh Reddick singled Iglesias to third.  Oliveros then intentionally walked Lars Anderson to load the bases. Oliveros forced Tony Thomas into what should have been an easy home to first double play, but Toledo catcher Omir Santos threw wildly to first, allowing Reddick to score the go ahead run.

Pawtucket trailed 2-0 in the top of the third before getting a run back on a lead-off triple by Matt Sheely and a RBI double by Ronald Bermudez.

The PawSox tied the game in the sixth on an unearned run.  Che-Hsuan Lin led off with a single and advanced to third after Iglesias’ bunt attempt was mishandled by Toledo 2B Argenis Diaz.  Reddick then drove in Lin with a sacrifice fly to center.

Michael Bowden (2-0) picked up the win but nearly suffered the loss.  With two out Mud Hens 3B Danny Worth walked. CF Clete Thomas then doubled to right, but the relay from Sheely to Thomas, to catcher Mike McHenry nailed Worth at the plate.

Sheely collected three of the PawSox’ 10 hits on the day.  Lin had two.

PawSox starter Andrew Miller had another up and down performance.  He pitched six innings giving up two runs on six hits.  He walked four and struck out four.

The PawSox have tomorrow off.  They will return to McCoy Thursday night at 7:05p.m. to open up a four game series with the Indianapolis Indians.  Rudy Owens (3-3, 4.17 ERA) is scheduled to start for Indianapolis.  Brandon Duckworth (4-2, 3.45 ERA) is expected to get the start for the PawSox.

  • PawSox Media Day 2011- Michael Bowden

PawSox pitcher Michael Bowden was once considered a can’t miss Major League pitcher.  He has had stints with the Red Sox but has not been able to prove to be consistent enough to stay in Boston.

Developed as a starter, Bowden last year moved to the bullpen where he will begin 2011 with an eye toward helping out the Boston pitching staff if the need were to arise.

  • PawSox Media Day 2011- Jose Iglesias

The new darling of the Red Sox minor league organization is shortstop Jose Iglesias.  Know for his defense, Iglesias starts the season in Pawtucket after a brief stop in Portland.  Many see Iglesias as Boston’s next shortstop, but he needs to improve his skills at the plate to take that next step.

Here is part of a conversation the media had today with Iglesias…

  • PawSox Media Day 2011- Lars Anderson

PawSox first baseman Lars Anderson was once one of the highest rated prospects in the Red Sox organization.  Even though the team still has high hopes for Anderson, the acquisition of Adrian Gonzalez in the off-season makes his chances to make big club as a starter a long shot.

Anderson made his PawSox debut in 2010 and was a September call-up for Boston.
