PawSox Again Fail For Bowden

PawSox starter Michael Bowden has had an exemplary 2009 season.  But you couldn’t tell by his record.

It was the PawSox offense that again let Bowden down, collecting only three hits off the Gwinnett pitching staff.  Braves starter Jonny Venters (3-5) picked up the win, giving up one tun on two hits over six innings.

Pawtucket’s run came on an RBI double by Chris Carter in the top of the first.

The two teams close out their four game set tomorrow afternoon (2:05pm). Adam Mills (0-1, 22.50 ERA) will make his second start for the PawSox.  He’ll oppose Jo-Jo Reyes (2.56) for the Braves.

  • Wakefield Strong, But Braves Batter PawSox Pen

Red Sox starter Tim Wakefield made a rehab start for the PawSox last night against the Gwinnett Braves.  Although he kept Pawtucket in the game, the bullpen fell victim to a Braves assault, resulting in a 10-1 Gwinnett win.

The Pawtucket bullpen could not solve the Braves offense.  Randor Bierd relieved Wakefield and gave up five runs (four earned) in only 1 2/3 innings of work.  Enrique Gonzalez and Javier Lopez surrendered a combined three runs in 2 2/3 innings on the mound.

The lone Pawtucket run came in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Jeff Bailey.

The series continues this afternoon (2:00 p.m.) as Michael Bowden (4-5, 3.23 ERA) throws for the PawSox.  Jonny Venters (2-5, 6.09 ERA) goes for the Braves.
