PawSox/Yankees Pre-Game Notes – August 31, 2012
I’m here at McCoy Stadium making my PawSoxBlog.com debut, and what a great time to be making it as the PawSox attempt to clinch the IL Wild Card to mark back-to-back years in the playoffs.
Hopefully my debut goes more swimmingly than Zach Stewart’s Red Sox debut on Wednesday.
Here are the lineups for tonight’s game:
Scranton-Wilkes Barre Yankees (82-58, clinched IL North title)
Chris Dickerson RF
Corban Joseph 2B
Ronnier Mustelier LF
Austin Romine C
Cole Garner DH
Melky Mesa CF
Kosuke Fukudome 1B
Kevin Russo 3B
Ramiro Pena SS
Ramon Ortiz (12-6, 3.44 ERA) P
Pawtucket Red Sox (77-63, leading IL Wild Card)
Jeremy Hazelbaker DH
Ivan DeJesus 2B
Tony Thomas LF
Danny Valencia 3B
Nate Spears 1B
Dan Butler C
Jason Repko CF
Jon Hee SS
Che-Hsuan Lin RF
Chris Hernandez (1-3, 3.44 ERA) P
The PawSox’ magic number to clinch the Wild Card over the LeHigh Valley IronPigs is two. The IronPigs host the Syracuse Chiefs tonight, with a start time akin to the PawSox’ opener of the final series of the season — 7:05.
Thanks to a six-game winning streak, the PawSox went from -1/2 game back of the Wild Card standings on August 24 to +3 games ahead of the IronPigs as of tonight. PawSox pitchers are 6-0 with a 2.16 ERA during the timely winning streak, with the offense boasting a .280 average (53-for-189).
