Iron Pigs Take Game One 4-2
The Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs belted three solo home runs, and it’s pitching staff kept the Pawtucket Red Sox in check, as they held on to a 4-2 win and a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five opening round series of the International League Playoffs.
C Erik Kratz (2nd inning) and RF Brandon Moss (4th inning) belted homers off PawSox starter Matt Fox. Brandon Duckworth gave up a home run to SS Freddy Galvis in the seventh.
Fox (0-1) gave up three runs on five hits over five innings. He walked two and struck out three.
The PawSox offense struggled early against Lehigh Valley starter Dave Bush (1-0), Bush held Pawtucket scoreless until the sixth when he gave up a lead-off home run to Lars Anderson. Bush worked 6 2/3 innings, giving up one run on five hits in getting the victory.
Pawtucket’s other run came in the eighth on a Luis Exposito bases loaded ground out.
Game two of the series is tonight at 7:05p.m. at Coca-Cola Field. Tony Pena, Jr. (9-6, 3.56 ERA) throws for the PawSox. He’ll face Ryan Edell (5-5, 3.27 ERA) for Lehigh Valley.
NOTES: In the other I.L opening round series the Columbus Clippers took a two game to nothing lead in the best of five series after beating the Durham Bulls 8-3 last night. The Clippers can wrap-up the series and advance to the Governor’s Cup Championship series with a win tonight in game three in Columbus.


The home of the Lehigh Valley IronPigs is Coca-Cola Park, not Coca-Cola Field. Coca-Cola Field is in Buffalo, NY, home of the Bisons.
Thanks for the clarification. I’m surprised I didn’t make the error earlier this season. Coca-Cola needs to cut back on the number of stadiums to which they pay naming rights! All the best!
