PawSox Drop Fourth Straight

The Charlotte Knights scored single runs in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings to come away with a 3-1 win over the Pawtucket Red Sox last night at McCoy.  The loss is the PawSox’ fourth in a row.

The PawSox held a 1-0 lead entering the seventh after scoring a run in the bottom of the sixth.  With two out Hector Luna singled off Knights starter Freddy Dolsi and stole second.  Nate Spears then drove a double to right, plating Luna.

Reliever Scott Atchison (1-1) gave up two runs to the Knights in the seventh and eighth.  In the seventh Atchison gave up a lead-off walk to 1B Jim Gallagher then a single to RF Dayan Viciedo.  DH Dallas McPhearson then sacrificed the pair to second and third.  C Tyler Flowers then drove in Gallagher with a ground out.

The Knights took the lead in the eighth on a solo homer by 2b Andrew Garcia.

Charlotte added an insurance run in the ninth off Hidecki Okajima on a McPhearson RBI single to center.

Pawtucket wasted a spectacular pitching performance from starter Brandon Duckworth.  Duckworth threw five scoreless inning giving up only one hit.  He walked two and struck out four.  He threw 66 pitches, 43 for strikes.

Game two of the seriesis this afternoon at 1:05p.m.. Matt Zaleski (1-2, 7.91 ERA) is on the mound for Charlotte.  He will face Kevin Millwood (1-0, 4.82 ERA) for Pawtucket.

NOTES:  Red Sox reliever Franklin Morales made his first rehab appearance last night for the PawSox.  He threw a perfect sixth inning, striking out one batter.
