Thomas’ Slam Leads PawSox Over Bisons

PawSox 2B Tony Thomas made the most of his first start for Pawtucket by belting a grand slam and driving five runs in all to lead the PawSox to a 8-3 win over the Buffalo Bisons yesterday at Coca-Cola Field.

Thomas’ slam came in the top of the second off Buffalo starter Pat Misch (0-1).  He added an RBI single in the ninth.  The infielder acquired from the Cubs in the trade that sent pitcher Robert Coello to Chicago finished the day 2 for 4.

Josh Reddick belted a solo homer for the PawSox while Lars Anderson went 3 for 4 with a double and a run driven in.

The three Buffalo runs came on a pair of home runs from LF Jason Pridie.

PawSox starter Matt Fox (1-0) was effective in his first start of the year.  He completed six innings, giving up only one run on four hits.  He walked one and struck out four.  He gave up Pridie’s first homer in the bottom of the first.

Hideki Okajima pitched his second consecutive scoreless inning of relief.  Michael Bowden pitched the final two innings, giving up Pridie’s second homer, a two-run shot in the eighth.

Game two of the four game series is this afternoon at 1:05pm.  Andrew Miller takes the mound in his Pawtucket debut. He’ll be opposed by former PawSox starter Boof Bonser for Buffalo.
