Bisons Take Advantage of PawSox Pitching, Sloppy Play
The Buffalo Bisons took advantage of some sloppy defense early and an ineffective bullpen late, coming away with a 12-4 win last night over the Pawtucket Red Sox at Coca-Cola Field.
PawSox starter Kris Johnson (4-13) was saddled with the loss. He gave up four runs in four innings, although only one was earned due to sloppy play on the field. Two doubles, a throwing error, and wild pitch led to two Buffalo runs in the bottom of the first. A single, double, and passed ball led to two more for the Bisons in the fourth.
Johnson finished his outing giving up six hits, walking two and striking out four.
Trailing 4-2 entering the bottom of the sixth, the Pawtucket bullpen imploded, giving up four runs in both the sixth and seventh innings. T.J. Large gave up four runs (three earned) on four hits in two innings of work. One of those hits was a solo home run by Buffalo RF Russ Adams.
Red Sox reliever Hideki Okajima, with the PawSox as part of a rehab assignment, gave up four runs while only retiring one batter in the seventh. Okajima gave up four singles and a two-run homer to Adams before recording an out. Santo Luis came in to relieve Okajima and allowed two inherited runners to score.
On the offensive side of the ball Josh Reddick and Jeremy Hermida led the charge for Pawtucket. Reddick went 3 for 4 with two homers and two runs batted in. Hermida also had three hits and drove in a run. Gustavo Molina added a solo homer for the PawSox.
Adams drove in four runs to pace the Bisons.
Game five of this six game series is tonight at 7:05p.m. Adam Mills (2-9, 5.31 ERA) takes the mound for Pawtucket. He’ll be opposed by Michael Antonini (1-1, 4.50 ERA) for the Bisons.
