PawSox Lose Slugfest to Chiefs

For the last three games the PawSox had trouble getting hits.  They got plenty of hits last night, but the results are the same.

The PawSox banged out 14 hits, but were undone by a early run barrage and fell to the Syracuse Chiefs, 8-7.

PawSox starter Charlie Zink (4-9) gave up all 8 Syracuse runs in the first three innings of the game.  They key blows for the Chiefs were off the bat of CF Justin Maxwell, who belted a pair of solo home runs.  3B Mike Morse also belted a homer and drove in three.  Zink did settle down to pitch 6 innings, giving up 9 hits while walking 3 and striking our one.

Chiefs starter Shairon Martis struggled as the PawSox chipped away at the Syracuse lead.  Martis lasted only two innings, giving up five runs on six hits.

Chris Carter belted a homer and drove in three runs for the PawSox.  Angel Chavel had three hits and also drove in three.  Jed Lowrie had arguably his best rehab start, going 3 for 5 with a double.

Pawtucket has now lost seven of their last eight games.  The two teams wrap-up their two game series, and the first have of the season this afternoon (1:05 pm) at McCoy.  Clay Buchholz (7-1, 2.11 ERA) will pitch for the PawSox.  He’ll be opposed by Colin Balester (6-8, 4.14 ERA) for Syracuse.
