PawSox Enter Break With Loss
The All-Star break could not come at a better time for the Pawtucket Red Sox.
The PawSox head into the break losers of five in a row and 8 of their last nine, losing to the Syracuse Chiefs this afternoon at McCoy 5-4. At 43-44 the PawSox are also under .500 for the first time this season.
PawSox All-Star Clay Buchholz (7-2) was not sharp, giving up all five runs (four earned) on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings. He walked one and struck out three.
Syracuse starter Colin Balester (7-8) pitched just well enough to earn the win. He pitched five innings, giving up two runs on five hits.
Freddie Guzman collected two hits, including a homer, and drove in two runs to pace the PawSox offensive attack. Angel Chavez also had two hits and drove in a run.
PawSox relievers Fernando Cabrera and Jose Vaquedano will represent the PawSox at the Triple A All-Star Game Wednesday in Portland, OR.
The PawSox return to action Thursday night (7:05 PM) when they open a four game series against the Indianapolis Indians.
