Torres Perfect in Rain-Shortened Win Over the PawSox
Charlotte Knights pitcher Carlos Torres is credited with throwing a perfect game in the Knights 5-0 win over the Pawtucket Red Sox last night at McCoy in a game shortened to five innings due to rain. The win earned Charlotte a split of the four game series. Torres is the first International League pitcher to throw a five inning perfect game.
Torres (5-4) struck out five in retiring all 15 batters he faced.
The Knights scored all five runs off PawSox starter Charlie Zink (4-6) in the top of the fifth on a Keith Ginter bases loaded walk and a grand slam by Josh Kroeger.
The PawSox hit the road to begin a four game series tonight (7:05 pm) with the Durham Bulls in North Carolina. Michael Bowden (3-3, 2.48 ERA)will pitch for Pawtucket. He’ll be opposed by Wade Davis (6-4, 3.17 ERA) for the Bulls.
