Pawtucket scored their runs on a 2-run double by Chris Carter to deep center driving in Jonathan Van Every and Chip Ambres who each reached on singles. Two batters later Carter scored on an RBI single to center by Paul McAnulty.
PawSox starter Charlie Zink stands to pick-up the win. He gave up both Buffalo runs in the third but then settled down. He has worked six innings, giving up six hits, walking three and striking out four. He threw 91 pitches, 59 for strikes. Billy Traber has relieved Zink to start the seventh.

Buffalo scored two runs off PawSox starter Charlie Zink in the top of the third. With one out, LF Fernando Martinez singled to the mound and advanced to third on a throwing error by Zink. Wily Mo Pena followed by driving in Martinez with a double to the gap in right center. After Zink threw a wild pitch sending Pena to third, 1B Javier Valentin drove him in with a single to left.
Zink has given up five hits through three innings, walking three, striking out two, and hitting a batter.
Former PawSox pitcher Kyle Snyder has pitched well through three innings for the Bisons. He has given up three hits while striking out two.
If anyone has a positive outlook on his career it is PawSox left-handed reliever Javier Lopez.
Lopez joined Pawtucket today after being designated for assignment on May 10th. He has been in the Red Sox organization since 2006 when he was acquired via a trade with the White Sox. He had been a staple in the Boston bullpen since the 2007 season. His 2009 casmpaign with Boston did not start well, going 0-2 with a 9.26 ERA in 14 games.
Although disappointed with the demotion, Lopez looks at his time in Pawtucket as an opportunity…
“It’s a business. said Lopez, “I’m hoping that the silver lining will be to come back here to work my way back. That’s what I’m going with. If that works out great. If another team comes calling, so be it.”
Lopez says his 2009 struggles can be attributed to problems with his command and falling behind batters.
“I don’t have that out pitch to get batters out.” he sad, “I need guys to put the ball in play.”
Lopez is familiar with the PawSox, going 2-1 with a 4.32 ERA in two separate stints (2006 & 2007) with the club.
“There’s obviously some comfort. I’ve been here before.” said Lopez “Nobody aspires to play their entire career at Triple A. Being an hour away from Boston makes it a lot better.”
There’s a familiar look to the Buffalo Bisons…Four members of the Buffalo roster have Boston/Pawtucket ties.

Tonight’s DH for the Bisons is Wily Mo Pena. He spent parts of 2006 and 2007 with the Red Sox. He was in Pawtucket during the 2006 season where he batted .244 with 2 homers and 7 RBI’s in 12 games. He joined the Bisons as a minor league free agent on April 20th.

The fourth former member of the PawSox on the Buffalo roster is OF Bobby Kielty. Cuurently on the Buffalo disabled list, Kielty batted .228 with 3 homers and 18 RBI’s in 28 games with the PawSox in 2008. he signed a minor league deal with the Mets in January.
