Zink, Relief Staff Stymie Bats
The Pawtucket Red Sox pitching staff once again put together a solid performance, allowing only one hit as the PawSox shut out the Louisville Bats, 2-0 this afternoon at Slugger Field. It’s the second one-hit shutout thrown by the PawSox in three games against the Bats.
Starter Charlie Zink (4-4) worked well enough to shut down the Bats and earn the win. He worked 7 1/3 innings, giving up the lone hit while walking 6 and striking out two.
Jose Vaquedano and Francisco Cabrera threw 1 2/3 perfect innings in closing out the game. Cabrera earned his 9th save of the season.
Pawtucket got all the runs they needed on a RBI single by C John Otness in the second and a sacrifice fly by 3B Angel Chavez in the seventh. Otness was the lone PawSox player to collect two hits.
The finale of the four game set is tomorrow night (7:05pm) and shapes up to be a great match-up. The PawSox send Michael Bowden (2-2, 1.64 ERA) to the mound, opposed by Reds phenom Homer Bailey (3-5, 4.57 ERA) for the Bats.
