Buchholz Near Perfection Paces PawSox Win
Pawtucket Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz took a perfect game into the ninth inning, giving up only one hit in the PawSox’ 3-0 victory over the Louisville Bats last evening in Kentucky.
Bats’ 2B Danny Richar lined the first pitch of the ninth to left for a clean single to break up the perfect game. Buchholz then resettled into his groove, retiring the next three batters to preserve the one-hitter and the shutout.
For the game Buchholz struck out 7 and walked no one. He threw only 96 pitches, 70 for strikes. He lowered his ERA to an I.L. best 1.30.
The PawSox gave Buchholz all the run support he would need in the sixth on back-to-back solo home runs by Dusty Brown and Paul McAnulty off Louisville starter Ramon Ramirez. Brown finished the day going 3 for 4. Travis Denker added two hits while Sean Danielson drove in Pawtucket’s third run.
The two teams continue their series tonight (7:05 pm) in Louisville with the PawSox sending Kris Johnson to the mound. He’ll be opposed by Adam Pettyjohn for the Bats.
