Projected PawSox 2009- Angel Chavez

chavezIt appears the Red Sox cannot have enough expereinced infielders.  Among them is 27 year-old Angel Chavez.

2009 will mark Chavez’ 10th professional baseball season.  He began his career in the Giant’s system, gradually making his Major League debut in 2005.  Since then Chavez has had minor league stints with the Orioles, Phillies, Yankees and Dodgers.

Chavez is considered an average Triple A hitter, averaging .269 over nine minor league seasons.  In his last two seasons Chavez has averaged .291 with 10 home runs and 67 RBI’s.

Chavez plays all infield positions, with proficiency at 3B, SS and 2B.  With the Sox’ addition of other veterans Nick Green and Ivan Ochoa, as well as the returning Gil Velazquez, Chavez will need to work hard to see any playing time in Boston…or even earn a starting job in Pawtucket.
