Projected PawSox 2009- Davern Hansack

hansackThe 2009 Boston Red Sox are projected to have one of the deepest pitching staffs in all of baseball.  Unfortunatley for RHP Davern Hansack, that will probably mean he will begin his third consecutive season in the PawSox starting rotation.

2008 proved to be a mixed bag for Hansack, at times showing consistent improvement only to be set back by injury.  He finished last season with a 6-10 record with a 4.08 ERA in 25 starts with the PawSox.  In 139 innings of work Hansack did possess good control, striking out 128 while only walking 41.  He did yield 16 home runs.

Originally signed by the Houston Astros in 2000, Hansack made his name with the Sox organization in 2006, making his Big League debut in September after becoming the Portland Sea Dogs 2006 Pitcher of the Year.  In his 9 game Major League career Hansack is 2-2 with a 3.70 ERA.

Hansack has a low 90′s MPH fastball mixed in with a change-up and slider.  A member of Boston’s 40-man roster, the 30 year-old Hansack would need to pitch the best baseball of his career to have a chance of making an impact in Boston in 2009.
