Projected PawSox 2009- Chip Ambres

ambresOF Chip Ambres already knows what it’s like to succeed as a member of the Pawtucket Red Sox.

The 29 year-old Ambres had one of his most productive seasons as a professional when he played for the PawSox in 2005…batting .294 with 10 homers and 50 RBI’s in only 84 games.  He was dealt to the Kansas City Royals on July 19th of that season in exchange for IF Tony Graffanino.  Just prior to the trade Ambres was part of the PawSox contingent at the 2005 Triple A All-Star Game.

The 1998 first-round draft choice of the Florida Marlins has had a sketchy stint in the Big Leagues, playing a total of 80 games over three seasons with the Royals, Mets, and most recently, the Padres.

Ambres will likely enter the 2009 season as a starter in the PawSox outfield.  He is capable of playing any of the three outfield positions.  To make a name with Boston however, Ambres would need to have an impressive offensive start, and hope that his numbers are equal to or surpass those of Jeff Bailey, Chris Carter, Jonathan Van Every, Paul McAnulty, and Brad Wilkerson to be called up in the event of injury.
